Each year, diaTribe hosts the Lightning Talks, a virtual event that brings leading researchers, advocates, and health professionals together to educating people and raise awareness around diabetes stigma.

In 2020, diaTribe welcomed Joan Garry, former executive director of GLAAD (the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). In her talk, Garry shared GLAAD’s strategy for media advocacy that helped them tackle LGBTQ stigma, transforming the lives of Americans. She also discussed what lessons can be learned from GLAAD’s success that may help advocates working on diabetes stigma.
